First Responder “Assessment” NOT Covered by Medicare or Insurance

Medicare will not cover the bill when a First Responder such as the Fire Department or an ambulance comes to your aid – UNLESS they transport you to a hospital. A “no transport” visit is considered an “assessment” – and since it is not approved or covered by Medicare, it will not be covered by your insurance either.

You may be sent a bill for several hundred dollars if a First Responder comes to your aid and you decline to be taken BY THEM to the hospital.

Some providers may not have asked for payment in the past for an “assessment” – but are now sending bills. Plus, it may take several months for the bill to be denied by Medicare and then forwarded to you for payment.
